Heritage
RSVP volunteers are very active in many aspects of our heritage. Their participation ranges from working with and supporting organisations such as the National Trust, to excavating historical sites and recording changes in our industrial and rural landscape.
In Lanark, Scotland, archaeological work is at the forefront, whether taking part in digs in co-operation with their local Archaeological Society, recording old farm buildings before they disappear, recording and excavating an old mill and working at a Nature Reserve, whilst In Edinburgh, volunteers help in local museums.
In England and Wales, our volunteers can be found both working in National Trust properties and gardens, raising money for the Trust by organising visits and events. In addition, individual heritage centres such as Moggerhanger Park, built by the prominent Georgian architect Sir John Soane, are also well supported.
One of the great charm of heritage work is the sense it gives of conserving
the past for future generations, so that they can understand and enjoy
what our ancestors worked so hard to create
