Frequently asked questions
| Q. |
I have learning difficulties.
Can I volunteer with RSVP? |
| A. |
Yes. RSVP has a policy of
not rejecting anyone who wants to volunteer. So whatever your
age, race, religion, sexual orientation, disability or state of health,
we will try to find something that suits you. |
| Q. |
How can I find out about volunteering
opportunities in my area? |
| A. |
Please visit the contacts page
of this website. Select the country where you are living or where
you want to volunteer. Then follow the instructions for contacting
us by e-mail, telephone or mail. |
| Q. |
Will RSVP pay my out-of-pocket
expenses? |
| A. |
Yes. It is RSVP policy that all its volunteers should
be entitled to claim reasonable out-of-pocket expenses incurred as
a result of their voluntary work. |
| Q. |
When I have been placed in a
project, what on-going support does RSVP provide? |
| A. |
Local RSVP organisers keep in regular contact with their
volunteers. Many arrange local meetings and social events to enable
volunteers to share their experiences and to support each other. |
| Q. |
Do I have the skills / experience
to be of much use as a volunteer? |
| A. |
Over your lifetime, you will have collected many skills
and a great deal of experience that will be of value to others. We
will take care to place you in a project which where you can use the
skills / experience that you do have. If further training is appropriate
and you think it would be useful, this can be arranged. |
| Q. |
How much time will I need to
commit? |
| A. |
As much or as little as you like. Some people like to
set side 1-2 hours each week on a particular day and time. Others
like to be completely flexible and fit their volunteering around other
activities |
| Q. |
What is different about volunteering
with RSVP? |
| A. |
RSVP believes that volunteering should benefit the volunteer
just as much as the person being helped. For the most part RSVP does
not recruit people to people to carry out specific tasks. Instead,
the emphasis is on the volunteer and finding something that will suit
his / her interests and talents. |
