Disability no barrier
- RSVP is an inclusive organisation and we welcome people of all abilities and disabilities.
- We always try to find volunteers opportunities that best suit their skills and aptitudes.
- All of our projects value disabled people, but some volunteer opportunities are specifically for people with special needs:
Active
Volunteering by Disabled People is a project that RSVP runs in
partnership with Disability Action in the Borough of Barnet. The project
recruits and supports disabled people in Barnet to be volunteers and
finds opportunities for them to capitalise on their skills and interests
for the benefit of others, meet new friends and play a valued role in
society. Participants are involved in a huge range of volunteering activities
from responding to helpline enquiries, DJ-ing at a hospital radio station
to helping out with their local football club. So far, over 100 people
have registered with the project.
The
RSVP Camden Networkers Scheme recruits older volunteers to pass
on information about healthy living and accessing health-related services
and activities to other older people, particularly older people with
mental health problems. The project currently has 96 volunteers, a large
number of whom have themselves experienced mental health difficulties.
The project responds to a real need in the community by helping vulnerable,
isolated older people to access health services that they might not
otherwise be able to. The scheme is organised by Maria, pictured above
right.
