Retire into Action

Age and Creativity

When RSVP began it was very clear that many of our members, in addition to volunteering skills, also had a lot of creative talent. Over the years we have encouraged this by staging U.K wide competitions in Arts, Crafts and Photography, the results of which have been exhibited in various London venues.

This year we felt that RSVP knitting deserved recognition by having a competition just by itself.. We called it 'Knit for Life' because the work of our 4,000 knitters touches both ends of the human spectrum. They provide vital knitted goods in the U.K. and especially for children in orphanages in many countries of the world. Besides bringing pleasure to the children, it also enables numerous isolated and housebound volunteers to play a valuable role and enables them to feel wanted, regardless of their age and state of health. The resulting exhibition of their work was held at The Guildhall in London, and attended by representatives from many of the countries that received their work.

RSVP's creative skills also draws strength from our great cultural diversity, with volunteers from many parts of the world contributing their traditional arts.

We are already beginning to plan for an even more spectacular competition in 2011, when all our Arts, Crafts, Knitting and Photographic skills will be on show.
